Registration FAQ

How many seasons are there each year?

There are two seasons each year, Autumn season which runs from January – June each year, and Spring season which runs from July – December

When are where are the games played?

All boys’ and girls’ competitions are played on Saturday.

Games are played at various locations around the area, including Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre, Parade College, Community Bank Stadium, Diamond Creek Community Centre and St Helena Secondary College.

What are the age limits for each age group?

The DVBA criteria for eligibility within each age group are:

  • Spring Season (second half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 31 December of the year of the competition.
  • Autumn Season (first half of the year) – A player must be under the age stated in the relative age group by the 30 June of the year of the competition.

Players must not have turned that age on or before the cut-off date for each season, in the year the season commences: Spring Season – 31 December; Autumn Season – 30 June.

Example 1:  In the Autumn Season (Jan – June), your daughter will play basketball for the first time. She will turn 8 years old on 20 June. Her first season will be in U10. She turns 8 before the 30 June Autumn season cut-off, so she cannot play U8 and must play in U10.

Example 2: Your son is playing in U12 in the Autumn Season (Jan – June).  He will turn 12 on 18 August, during the following Spring Season (July – December), therefore he must go up to U14 for that Spring Season.

How are teams created?

Please refer to our Grading and Selection policy.

Will my child get to play in the same team as his friends?

Please refer to our Grading and Selection policy. We endeavour to place children with at least one friend or person they know but this is not always achievable.

Where can I order a uniform from?

Watsonia Warriors basketball uniforms are proudly supplied by Belgravia Apparel.

Our uniform was updated in August 2022. Our hard-working committee has finalised the brand new Watsonia Warriors uniforms featuring reversible playing singlets, shorts, hoodies, socks, polo shirts, and bags.

To order online please visit the Belgravia Apparel website.

PLEASE NOTE: All current and new registrations will be receiving a new training/warm-up top courtesy of our current sponsors for the 2024/2025 seasons.

How do you work out the coaches for each team?

Once registrations are received, our Coaches Coordinator and Teams Coordinator will begin the recruitment process for coaches for each team. Many of our volunteer coaches are parents or relatives of players. Some of our coaches are current or past players themselves.

We are always on the lookout for people interested in coaching our teams. If you are interested in coaching, we would love to hear from you.

Please note: All coaches (unless Under 18 years of age) must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) to be eligible to coach for the Watsonia Warriors. Coaches will be asked to supply the club with a copy of their WWCC.
